His Excellency Dr. Vahe Gabrielyan

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary 

to the Court of St. James's

 and to Ireland

Dr. Vahe Gabrielyan was appointed Armenia's Ambassador to the Unitod Kingdom in March 2003 and to Ireland in December 2005, becoming the first ever Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Ireland. Before his ambassadorial tenure he was the Spokesperson (Press Secretary) for the President of Armenia from 1998 to 2003. In parallel, he served as President's interpreter for the same period and having done that also in 1993-1994 and 1997-1998, has in fact been the longest serving presidential interpreter since Armenia's independence. In between these dates Vahe Gabrielyan also served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia in various capacities from 1994 to 1998. He held positions at the UN, OSCE and later UNESCO desks of the Department of International Organizations of the Ministry.  He has also worked at the Constitutional Court of Armenia. All these jobs have been combined with uninterrupted teaching at Yerevan State University, where he taught English and related disciplines, including Area Studies (courses on the political systems, history, culture and traditions) of two English-speaking countries - the United Kingdom and the United States. He has earned his PhD in Theory of Linguistics from the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia in 1994.

Dr. Gabrielyan has graduated with honours from Yerevan State University where he also completed his post-graduate studies. He has also been educated at Davidson College, North Carolina, US and at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, Austria. 

Dr. Gabrielyan has published articles on subjects related to linguistics and teaching, as well as many translations. Dr. Gabrielyan has vast experience in conference interepreting and in high-level consecuitive interpretation and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists, London. Apart from Armenian he is fluent in English and Russian.

He has been member of numerous high-level government delagations representing Armenia at international summits and other fora. He has the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

Vahe Gabrielyan is married and has two sons.

His hobbies include photography, hiking, reading and travelling.
